Our Stories of Healing
Centralizing Personal Voices in Care and Compassion
In our fast paced and mainstream world that centralizes capitalistic ideals, rewarding production and exploitation, care is often marginal in the dominant Western thought systems many of us are familiar with. This project makes an effort to recentralize healing and rest as forms of resistance to this intended destruction of our bodies, minds, stories, and ultimately our humanity. Through storytelling, this project creates a space for intentional reflection and reconnection to our identities while actively acknowledging the systems of violence that have harmed us. Join us as we talk through the stories of our healing.
This project is very intentional in its design. Podcasts have been used as a medium to highlight voices but frequently involve a host, an expert, and a series of interview questions. This particular setup reflects the systems of violence throughout history and our present-day societies. Who’s voices are we highlighting? Who is the expert and in what systems are they considered to be one? What is the purpose of the host’s presence? What are the limitations of interview questions, and what role do they play?
Our Stories of Healing: Centralizing Personal Voices in Care and Compassion involves a series of recorded conversations and stories. It is intended to take back this medium to centralize voices of experts in our lived experiences. They are unstructured with no predetermined questions or path of discussion; the only given guide was a singular word––care. The progression of each conversation is a dance of those sharing the space in their interpretation of what care is to them. These conversations are casual and between friends to reflect our authentic selves. Storytelling has been questioned and invalidated as a real form of knowledge and learning. We are challenging that.
The space created is one that has allowed many of us to choose to share vulnerabilities and unfiltered emotion. Please be mindful that these are stories very personal to us, and we are welcoming you into our space to listen.
Full conversations will be posted at a later date! Check back soon!
